Enterprise application for eCommerce bundling, collaboration and validation

My Role

I led the UX design by bridging requirements from business, stakeholders, and development. Created user friendly designs for complex situations. Utilized existing components and designed reusable components for development implementation. User research, moderated and task driven usability studies, common patterns, wire-framing, and prototyping were all major aspects of my role in this project.

It all starts with requirements

Daily syncs with business analysts and business managment

I operated on the business side of the application requirements bringing solutions to development for best implementation. I was tasked with integrating complex scenarios into a user friendly task driven concepts.

Concepts, user-flows, and prototypes were discussed and solutioned to both business and stakeholders for testing and research. Once concepts were approved, flows and screens built, user stories were then groomed with development for implementation.

Process-flows & IA Diagrams

The process-flows and information architecture was a first step before any designing. White boarding during business meetings to discuss requirements and user flows was a daily occurance. Integration with existing tools also needed to be solutioned during the business analyst meetings.

Editing and revising the requirements with stakeholders led to wireframing and revising process-flows to insure rapid solutioning— insuring the complexity of the solutions in the application were met and the overall user flow implemented and solutioned.

Wireframing

Content placeholders, wireframing and early concepts were used for the development team to show placement of UI features, presented alongside user-flows for business to understand the direction and implementation ideas. Additionally to solution ideas at an early stage in the design process

Prototyping

User flow, component and functionality prototyping

Created rapid prototyping for components and user-flows. Created entire application mapping, interaction, end-to-end prototyping. Prototypes were used by stakeholders, analysts, developers, and upper management. Prototypes were used to show upper management progress and functionality. Developers used them to understand flow and function, stakeholders and end-users used them to ensure requirements are met.

User testing & research

A/B testing

Tested multiple designs concepts with stakeholders and business analysts.

Moderated and unmoderated user testing

Provided task driven questioning on prototypes and application  for completion goals. Analyzed clickstreams, goal completion, pain points and failures. Provided feedback to business analysts and stakeholders to solution a better user experience.

Stakeholder engagement

Weekly meetings with stakeholder management to provide prototypes, wireframes, progress, and collaborate with the business analysis’s to make sure complex business requirements are being met for ease-of-use for the end user.

Stripping down complexities to their minimum requirements and building functionality around simplicity for the user with complex scenarios

Interactive design

Created rapid prototyping for components and user-flows. Created entire application mapping, interaction, end-to-end prototyping.
Prototypes were used by stakeholders, analysts, developers, and upper management.

Prototypes showed upper management progress and functionality. Developers used them to understand flow and function, stakeholders and end-users used them to ensure requirements are met and the application would be useable.

Pinned offers concept

Idea for pinnable offers so users can easily track important offers in their pipeline

This feature improved the table view for users that wanted to track particular offers.

Aditional features and basic patterns for table usage

This application required many tables for the design patterns of the data. Tables were extreamly basic at first. they were created in a limited box with a scroll. I improved UX by adding a custom filtering component, date picker, pagination, segmenting, and aditional features for scalability.

Analytics– experience and visual improvements

  • Grouping and segmenting data
  • Additional features for minimization
  • Minimalized stripped-down charts for simple clarity.
  • Worked with analysists to derive the correct chart for the correct data to display

Comparison tables with editable features

Easily editable comparison tables. Users typically had 3 row tables with up to 70 columns of data that needed to be compared and editable. I did competitor research along with looking at common patterns for comparison charts. I created a scrollable UI while turning the table on its side— working with dev to confirm they were able to implement; what was delivered was a better experience for the user and have values editable and visible at a glance.

Navigation improvement

Working from an offshore design concept. I quickly made my case for UX improvements and UI changes. The original was unscalable, used incorrect patterns, pushed down actionable content, and was bloated. Moderated and unmoderated user-testing proved the issues. I took the data and feedback, improved the patterns, streamlined bloat, made improvements for scalability, and made the entire application more user-friendly while driving completion for business goals.

Technical requirements

Agile UX

Agile methodology integrated with user experience design for the application. Our UX team led the discussion for user focused design and made our case for user centered design choices. We were able to get testing and research done quickly for design decisions,  integrating with stakeholders and business analysis’s to pull the designs together with development ahead of sprint grooming for a smooth experience for all involved from end-users to developers in 2-3 week sprints.

Team management, team syncs, cross-discipline collaboration

I managed an offshore UX team, finding qualities within the members to execute tasks they excelled at. Daily meetings with business analyst’s, lead architects, and project management to solution ideas for stakeholder requirements and legacy application integration. Acted as the sole person to bridge the development team with the business team which before I was there acted as two separate conflicting teams. I paved the way for better communication and understanding between the two teams and reaching goals with better communication.
